Our AGM will provide an opportunity to learn about GVGS and what we have accomplished over the past year. There will a chance to meet the board and mingle with fellow members and supporters. Members in good standing can participate in the election of the board of directors. Ann Nightingale past president of the Rocky Point Bird Observatory an avid birder and naturalist for over 20 years will share her enthusiasm and insights about our fine feathered friends. Doors open at 1:00 pm, and the meeting and presentations run from 2:00-4:00 pm. The event will be followed with light snacks, and refreshments, and a chance to become a member.

Call for Nominations for GVGS Board of Directors
The Greater Victoria Greenbelt Society is requesting submission of nominations for new board members, to be elected at our April 14, 2018 AGM.
Any member who wishes to stand for election must be nominated by another Society member and submit, aGVGS BOARD CANDIDATE APPLICATION to the nominating committee by March 30, 2018.
Service for 1 year on the Board of Directors of GVGS is a rare chance to help drive the decisions of and shape the future of the Mary Lake Nature Sanctuary project. This is an exciting time to join the leadership of GVGS and help us map our ambitious future.
Board service is a chance to grow personally and professionally, to develop skills, gain unique experience and make lasting connections with a team of other passionate and motivated people. Board service also provides these unique opportunities:
Develop valuable skills in non-profit governance, program planning and strategic planning
Expand your network of like-minded contacts
Gain recognition from your employer, community, or peers
Society Members in good standing are invited to nominate qualified candidates for the position of director. We are specifically looking for people with these skills
Treasurer - Financial/ business management
Director - program development, education and or training
Director - Communications – social media strategy – website
The Board nominating committee will
Review nominations applications.
Invite qualified applicants for an interview before April 5, 2018
Submit approved applicants for election at the April 14 2018 AGM.
Qualification includes endorsing the Constitution of the Society and meeting the requirements of the B.C. Society Act.
Hold active membership in GVGS
Be willing to accept a leadership role for the future of our organization
Have time to dedicate to fulfilling their responsibilities.
Section 44 of the new Societies Act sets out a number of requirements for anyone who wants to be a director of a non-profit society such as the Greater Victoria Greenbelt Society.
Are you at least 18 years old?
Have you ever been found, by any court on this planet, to be incapable of managing your own affairs?
Are you an undischarged bankrupt?
Have you been convicted of an offence in relation to the promotion, formation or management of a company, or of fraud? If so:
Has it been more than five years since your punishment and probation ended?
Have you been officially pardoned for that offence, with that pardon still in effect?
If you answer yes, no, no and no, you can be a director. Even if the answer to #4 is “yes”, you are still qualified to be a director if you can also answer “yes” to either of the (a) and (b) questions.
